10kTraits: A Database for Comparative Primatology

Welcome to 10kTraits (beta version)!

This website provides up-to-date, transparent, and selective data on primates. In particular, its built to deliver primate socioecological and life history data to comparative researchers, with an emphasis on wild populations.

All data are fully referenced and linked to specific populations that are georeferenced. To assist end-users in making their own decisions about which data to use, we include metadata, such as study duration and sample size.

Is the site ready to use? At this time, we discourage you from actively using the data on this website for comparative studies. This database is currently in beta and as such it is a work in progress as we work our way down the taxonomic alphabet. Also, some data remains to be double-checked, which will be completed before the official release. In the meantime, we appreciate your feedback.

How can I help? When we release Version 1.0 (TBD), we intend to have most well-studied species represented, with solid coverage of commonly-used traits. Species that are not as well studied will likely not be included until future iterations. However, if you would like to see your study species or population included sooner, we could absolutely use your help in identifying populations and data, particularly for less well-known species. Alternatively, if you would like to contribute in a larger way (e.g., identifying data and entering it into the database), please contact us.
